First United Methodist Church of Ardmore is dedicated to serving the community through many different ministries. Listed below are just a few of the different ways we reach out to show love to our neighbors.
Every Wednesday morning we have volunteers from 9:30-11:30 who are available to help those in the community needing assistance. These volunteers serve in rotation giving out sack lunches and providing information for the many different resources available to help. Also, available during this time is our Clothes Closet Ministry where free clothing is distributed Monday from 1:00 -3:00pm and Wednesday from 9:00-11:00a.m.
Little School Bells is another outreach ministry done by FUMC volunteers. This ministry helps to purchase clothing for needy school children in the community including shoes and coats as well. Also, in the month of August we coordinate with the United Way to help distribute school supplies to local school districts. Our Christmas Ministry team is another way we help children in our area. Every year our congregation donates so that we can provide gifts for these children. Last year we began a new way of doing this and invited the entire family to come for a Christmas celebration with us. Our members volunteered for one of six evening celebrations scheduled. Together with the families we enjoyed an evening filled with food, laughter, and warm fellowship. Our focus was on why we celebrate by giving to others at Christmas and celebrating the greatest gift of all. We expressed our joy in being able to serve and give and invited our families to be able to also give in celebration of the gift we have all received. The children were invited to make a gift for their parents while their parents were able to go into another room to select two gifts per child. They were then given the option to wrap the gift at one of our wrapping stations supplied with everything needed. These were truly joyful celebrations.
