Lay Ministries


 

It is our fundamental belief that persons within the Body of Christ are gifted by God for special service to all persons in the church and outside the church. Lay ministry allows each individual to share those gifts and talents in the form of outreach ministry to uplift & teach others.

Local Ministries

Lay Ministries provides opportunities for volunteers to make a Christian difference in the Ardmore community.  These local ministries are in constant need of additional volunteers.

Clothes Closet volunteers provide free clothing to needy persons on Mondays at 1:00-3:00 p.m. & on Wednesdays at 9:00-11:00 a.m.  .

The Little School Bell Ministry provides elementary school children with clothing & shoes.

Prayer Ministry participants pray for needs of staff, church, & the special needs of others on Tuesdays at noon in the Cora Carlock Chapel.

Redemption Church is a prison-based ministry that meets on Thursday & Sunday evenings to help inmates integrate back into the community & within the church.

P.I.E. Ministry participants prepare baked goods to give to first-time worship visitors.

Ardmore Soup Kitchen volunteers provide evening meals for homeless persons in the area.

Pregnancy Resource Center (formerly Crisis Pregnancy Center) volunteers are trained to offer positive options to pregnant women in crisis.

Habitat for Humanity volunteers participate in the building of homes for disadvantaged persons.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers stand up for the rights of children in court.

Loaves & Fishes volunteers provide groceries through a voucher system to needy families.

Cross Timbers Hospice volunteers offer terminally ill patient care in the form of companionship in the home setting & assist surviving caregivers following their loss.

The Bereavement Ministry provides a meal for families during the loss of a family member.

The Christmas Ministry provides Christmas gifts for needy area school children.

FUMC Singing Ministry volunteers sing at area nursing homes on the first and third Fridays and Saturdays of each month.

The Prayer Chain Ministry works like a telephone tree.

Divorce Care volunteers to help persons find help and healing after divorce/separation.

Prayer quilts are made and tied with prayers by Prayers & Squares upon request

Monday Morning Maintenance Ministry volunteers meet for coffee, fellowship, and clean-up at the Colvert Ministry Center.

Through our Counseling Ministry we have three certified counselors available at an off-campus location.

Stephen Ministry volunteers are given 50 hours of listening-skill training and become a Christian friend to persons who are going through crises, like death, divorce, job loss, surgery, convalescence, empty nest, childbirth, and depression.

Celebrate Recovery volunteers help facilitate a Christian 12-step program for persons with hurts, hang ups, and habits.
